DIY Garden Minute Ep62 Show Notes

Feb 19, 2019

This is the DIY Garden Minute by Spoken Garden!  "Teaching you tips and tricks for your Garden in one minute!"

Today's topic is the benefits of using pine needles as mulch!

So, you might have asked yourself, "can I or should I use pine tree needles as mulch?".  The answer is a resounding YES! They

  • suppress weeds,
  • retain soil moisture,
  • reduce erosion,
  • keep plant roots cool in the summer and insulated in the winter, and
  • they look really nice.

The biggest difference, increase the acidity of your garden soil.

Good news for any acid-loving plants.

As a general mulch rule:

  • depth
  • needles breakdown
  • Be sure free from pests or diseases
